Interior pros Stacey Cohen of Stacey Cohen Interiors, a talented and tenacious finalist on Season 5 of HGTV’s Design Star, and Sasha Adler, Design Director at Nate Berkus Associates, help the design-challenged like us every day, so we asked them to share the best interior design trends for 2013. Thankfully, they’re both way too sweet to turn us down!
Color of the Year
The color of the year is — drumroll please — emerald green! Since we’re all about bold color, like Cohen, we’re ecstatic that home décor is going green. According to the designer, the choice by the powers that be at Pantone helps move us out of a recession mentality and back to spending on luxury goods. And we could use a little opulence right about now!
An Easy Update: Paint and Accessorize
Adler says that when it comes to redecorating, a little paint and accessories make a huge difference — and bonus, they can be budget-friendly. “Repainting a room is an instant makeover that can completely update and change the mood.” Add colorful accessories like Cohen’s must-have emerald green vintage coin candlesticks and your room will have a whole new look.
Add Global Inspiration
Adler tells us that this year we’re going to see a ton of global influence at home. Items like Moroccan rugs and handcrafted baskets will be popping up in houses of world travelers and homebodies alike.
We were dying to know what each designer has her eye on this year for herself. Cohen is dying for hard-to-find, jewel toned, vintage pieces like funky pitchers and platters, while Adler is obsessed when it comes to sheepskin. She’s literally counting the days until her Hermes-inspired sheepskin upholstered lounge chair arrives. We would too…something that divine deserves its own countdown!
