There’s just something about Alicia Silverstone that makes us feel happy. She’s a doting mom to her young son Bear, and she shares her mothering tips on her blog The Kind Life. When she’s not posting yummy vegan recipes or tips for green living, she’s just putting out good vibes — something we could all use a little more of, right?
Her latest words of wisdom come at a time when most of us are thinking about what to give the people we love. Alicia reminds us that, “There are lots of ways to show love and appreciation during the holidays, and not all of them involve buying stuff.” Here are some ideas she has for finding gifts that matter:
Alicia says, “Focus on things people need.” She suggests cookbooks or cooking staples like aged gourmet vinegars or infused olive oils. She says these staples are “yum and fun for foodies who love to cook.”
Many people want to get greener, but they don’t know where to start. Alicia suggests finding eco-friendly alternatives for people to try, like organic bamboo hand towels instead of paper or eco-friendly skin care. She says, “I like to pick something that they will love so much that they’ll continue to purchase it.” Way to give a gift that really makes a difference all year!
Think Low Stress
It may sound trite, but it’s the thought that counts — and an inexpensive but thoughtful gift will mean more than an expensive one, every time. Alicia says, “Give what your heart wants to give, whether that means an act of kindness or a tangible gift handpicked or handmade by you for someone you love.” She adds, “Whatever feels best to you.”
