Baby Audrina, the little girl in Houston who was born with one-third of her heart outside of her body, is getting the best gift of all. She’s going home!
After living in the hospital since her birth on October 16, she and mom Ashley Cardenas, happily checked out of the hospital after more than a three-month stay, according to Click2Houston.com.
Audrina was born at 16 weeks’ gestation, not even halfway through Ashley’s pregnancy, so she’s been hooked up to machines since birth. In the meantime, she still requires oxygen and a feeding tube, but she’s seriously defying the odds.
“I’m nervous and anxious. It’s a very, very big step. It’s been a blessing to finally say we’re going home,” said Cardenas.
We don’t blame the new mom — we worry about leaving the doctor’s office when our kids have strep and can’t imagine how challenging it must be to leave the comfort of a full-time team of doctors, but we have no doubt Ashley will do great.
After all, there’s nothing more healing than a mother’s love!
