There were two Joes on TV last night. One sat behind President Obama as he addressed the country (loved the lavender tie, Mr. Vice President!), and the other was Banana Joe, an adorable black affenpinscher. The ewok-like pup brought home the Best In Show title at the 137th annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show.
The 5-year-old prize-winner is said to very smart (his co-owner says he speaks German, Dutch, Spanish, and English), and tough to boot. Banana Joe’s handler, Ernesto Lara, told reporters, “He’s a very tough little guy. He’s just a comedian. He doesn’t know his size. He doesn’t know he has a fluffy face. He thinks he’s Mr. America.”
This isn’t Banana Joe’s first rodeo. The seasoned dog show contestant had already won 85 best in show titles at other events, and last night was his last show before hanging up his show leash for good.
Now, a retired Joe will live out his dog days in Amsterdam, where he can bask in the glow of his Westminster glory.
