We’ll admit it, when it comes to throwing our kid’s birthday party, we can get a little competitive. There’s nothing wrong with the typical princess or superhero party, but after seeing the same thing over and over, it’s enough to get our plastic tiaras in a twist.
Instead of planning another been-there-done-that fiesta, try one of our unique birthday party ideas that’ll have guests gushing over your creativity and the guest of honor feeling quite special indeed.
Event planner extraordinaire, Allison Zisook Goldstein of Full of Grace & Rubies, hosted a Charlotte’s Web bday party that would make Old McDonald jealous. Serving iced cookies decorated like farm animals and passing out personalized piggy bank, she created a farm-friendly party perfect for farmers and farmerettes.
This theme is FAN-tastic for sports-minded boys, and girls will love snacking while pushing over pins too! Make a sweet treat using glass bottles filled with milk with red ribbon around the top to look like a bowling pin — cute, classic and crafty
Warning: Construction IS Fun!
If your son is a construction site fool, like most little dudes, a construction party’s the way to go! Skip the party store (and party store prices) and hit up Home Depot for construction materials like caution tape, dirt and buckets. Fill the buckets with dirt and throw a bunch of trucks in for the kids to play with during the party.
Party note: Keep baby wipes and a dust buster on hand if a mess makes you nuts. Try to remember, it’s a party!
Hungry Little Caterpillars
Reading is GOOD! A party based on an Eric Carle book is EVEN BETTER! We love The Very Hungry Caterpillar theme party because it works for boys and girls and it also happens to inspire one of our favorite activities: eating! This caterpillar made out of finger sandwiches and a tomato head makes it the most delicious insect we’ve ever seen!
Oprah was definitely onto something with that whole Favorite Things thing. Like Ms. O, we indulged our little miss with a favorite things party using everything she loves. The gang was all there — Minnie, Dora, Disney Princesses, Foofa, and the Fresh Beat Band — as cake toppers and centerpieces. Let’s just say there was a lot of printing out images on the computer, wooden sticks and hot glue gunning involved, but it was all worth it!
