We love this idea! Even if you’re not Martha Stewart, these DIY chalkboard frames are a fun activity you can do with the kids on a crummy day. Uber cute and utterly practical, they can be whatever you need them to be — and you can stop searching all over for a pen and paper.

Hang one in the kitchen for for scribbling down your grocery list. Place it on your desk to jot down reminders and to-dos. Leave one by the door as a message board (“Don’t forget your lunch!”). Or display it as ever-evolving wall art. It can even be a mess-free way to keep the kiddos entertained (chalk cleans up a lot easier than paint or marker). Have them make one to match yours!

Super simple to create, all you need is the paint and frame of choice, non-sanded grout (yeah, that’s a thing — check Home Depot), paint brushes, chalk, and measuring cups. For step-by-step instructions, head over to Free People.
