We were immediately scared for our chests, too, but then we saw that Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon of Besançon CHU had been conducting this study of braless women since 2007 — 16 years! And then we read what he had to say about his conclusions.
Rouillon’s study of 330 women found that breasts would actually grow to support themselves if bras were not used, and that using a bra meant “supporting tissues will not grow and even they will wither and the breast will gradually degrade.”
As we haven’t seen the official study numbers, Wetpaint Moms remain unconvinced of the benefits of ditching our over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders just yet. And even Rouillon himself advises against it.
“It would be dangerous to advise all women to stop wearing their soutien-gorge as the women involved were not a representative sample of the population,” Jean-Denis says, adding, “women who had been wearing bras for a long time would not gain a benefit from stopping now.”
THERE IS A GOD!
