There are few things in this world that are more difficult than losing a family member, especially when it’s your big brother. In a miraculous turn of events, Erin Roberts was able to find happiness in the wake of such a tragedy, falling in love with the boy who received her brother’s transplanted heart, according to the West Seattle Herald.
Erin’s brother Kellen passed away at age 22 in 2005, and the family made the decision to donate his organs to save the lives of others. Kellen’s heart was soon on its way to Minnesota for a boy named Connor Rabinowitz, who had a rare genetic heart disease. After the successful transplant, Connor wanted to meet the family of the boy who saved his life, which was when he traveled to Seattle and met Erin for the first time.
“It was a connection at first sight,” Connor says, “We hit it off right away and became friends.”
Erin and Connor continued to meet once a year and talk off and on until 2011, when they decided to make their relationship official. They continued to date through the end of their college careers — Erin still in Seattle and Connor in Minnesota — and then once they graduated, Connor moved to the West Coast to be with her. The happy couple even hinted that there may be a wedding in the future!
We are just gushing over this out-of-the-ordinary love story, but we wonder what you think: Do you feel that Erin’s brother’s heart is what caused the initial connection, or is it just a sweet coincidence?
