We consider it our second birthday when the Girl Scouts ring our doorbell with that colorful order sheet of all the sugary goodness that we’ve been craving since last year. Honestly, those Thin Mints didn’t survive to see the day after they were delivered.
If you’re as gaga over Girl Scout cookies as we are, you’ll be excited to hear the news of their newest cookie: Mango Cremes with NutriFusion, according to ABC Smart Cookies. Okay, so this NutriFusion business refers to the cookie’s substitution of high fructose corn syrup with “natural whole food concentrate of (cranberry, pomegranate, orange, grape, strawberry, and shiitake mushrooms).” Yummm — fruit salad with mushrooms!
We were surprised at the lack of mango concentrate, as the cookie’s name would suggest, but we are willing to forgive and forget, considering the saturated fat levels are a good deal lower than many of the other fan favorites. The Girl Scouts also claim that the new Mango Creme includes “15 percent of the Recommended Daily Intake of Vitamin B1 and 5 percent RDI of Vitamins A, C, D, E, and B6 per serving.”
When it’s all said and done, we applaud the Girl Scouts for attempting to infuse their new 2013 cookie with all this healthy stuff, but sometimes a cookie is just delicious as a cookie rather than a vitamin stuffed power snack. Who actually pays attention to the suggested serving size on those delicious green boxes anyway?
