Oh Gwynnie, you’re a strong woman for taking on barrage after barrage of criticism these last few months. First it was your kids’ gluten-free diets that left them with a “specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs,” next it was espousing a $450,000 wardrobe revamp, and now you’re advertising teeny weeny bikinis for 4-, 6-, and 8-year-olds on your website, Goop.
The black or navy New York Bikini Set by famed designer Melissa Odabash is being sold on Gwyneth Paltrow’s site for $45 and features ruffles on the top and bottom. The set is advertised for women who want their little girl to look just like them, as the adult size is also for sale.
The string top and tie closures on the sides of the bottoms would be enough to scare us away from the design — what kids could keep those tied? — but many are calling out the bikini as totally inappropriate. Gwyneth is being accused by some moms of ‘sexualizing’ children.
A rep from Kidscape, a child safety charity, told the Daily Mail, "We remain very opposed to the sexualisation of children and of childhood. The dangers have been discussed at length, so it is a great pity that such trends continue and that they carry celebrity endorsement."
We want to know what you think about the bikini: Is it too cute or totally innapropriate?
