It’s hard to find a good body image role model when it comes to celebrity moms, as so many of them seem to go to excessive lengths to lose weight after they have babies. Of course, it’s considered to be part of the gig, but it can be disconcerting, nonetheless. That’s why Isla Fisher, who graces the May cover of Fitness magazine, is like a breath of fresh air.
The star of the upcoming highly anticipated film, The Great Gatsby, happily embraces her post-baby body. She goes so far as to even shun scales because, as she says, “I have two young daughters and I wouldn’t want them to see me weighing myself all the time. I don’t think it sends the right message.”
The 37-year-old beauty, who is married to actor Sacha Baron Cohen, says it all comes down to accepting yourself for who you are.
“For me, so much about life is acceptance. You can look in the mirror and find a million things wrong with yourself,” Isla says in the article. Instead of picking out all the bad things, she says she makes sure to think to herself, “I feel good, I have my health, and I’m so blessed.” She goes on to say, “That’s the way I choose to look at it. I don’t need to be perfect.”
Talk about a refreshing way to look at body image! Of course, the star does understand that staying fit is part of her chosen profession. The mom of two girls — Olive, 5½, and Elula, 2½ — practices yoga five days a week to stay in shape.
Isla gained 65 pounds during her first pregnancy, and needed to lose the weight to begin filming Confessions of a Shopaholic three months after giving birth. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer helped by hiring her a trainer three times a week, which I’m sure all of us moms would love!
As for what her fave body part is, Isla says it’s her tummy. “Even though it will never be flat again, it’s still my favorite because it reminds me of my greatest achievement: my babies!”
Okay, this might come off sounding creepy, but I want to be friends with this girl! What do you think of Isla’s outlook on body image?
