All table flipping and catfights aside, The Real Housewives of New Jersey are always happy to support a good cause. For Jacqueline Laurita, whose 3-year-old son, Nicholas, has been diagnosed with autism, there’s no better cause than National Autism Awareness Month.
To promote understanding, Autism Speaks has events planned all month long with the Light It Up Blue campaign. Buildings from the Sydney Opera House to the Leaning Tower of Pisa are glowing blue to show their support.
Since announcing her son’s autism in August 2012, Jacqueline is doing her best to help spread awareness — including making a little change to her lovely locks.
“Well, for starters I have a blue extension in my hair,” the mom of three told Wetpaint Moms when we caught up with her at a recent event.
“I got it at Cafface Beauty Bar for $10 [Lauren Manzo’s New Jersey salon]. We had an autism event in Westchester and we’re going to Chicago for a Generation Rescue fundraiser. Then we have another event in May. I’m just trying to do as much as I can this month. But I’m always tweeting and trying to raise awareness in general.”
Jacqueline is a big believer that celebs can make a difference by speaking out on their experiences with autism. “That’s why I’m really grateful to have this platform,” she said. “I’ve found what my purpose is.”
