What I Like About You star Jennie Garth wants us to know that while we might think she’s totally 90210-ish, she’s actually just a single mom, living in L.A., trying to raise her three girls on a budget. As she says in her new column for RetailMeNot, “I’m no Beverly Hills socialite. I’ve only played one on TV.”

Fair enough — after all, her days as Kelly Taylor may have had us all convinced that she just hangs at the Peach Pit and spends money like it’s water, but since divorcing her husband, Twilight star Peter Facinelli, she’s making an effort to live like she did when she was growing up in Urbana, Illinois.

“We grew much of our own food, and I can still remember flipping through the tattered pages of my mom’s favorite cookbook, about feeding a family on $12 a week,” Jennie writes. “Can you imagine dinner at my house? Let’s just say I won’t be sad if I never see a tuna noodle casserole again.”

Although Jennie is a working Hollywood actress, she also says she’s a pretty normal, and budget-conscious, mom to her three girls. “When you’re a single parent, finding a bargain becomes less of a nicety and more of a necessity. I try to shop smart. Now more than ever, every dollar I bring home, or manage to save, means more safety and security for my family and our future,” she writes.

Jennie isn’t the first celebrity mom to try her hand at blogging wallet-friendly shopping tips for moms. Former Kate Plus Eight star Kate Gosselin wrote for CouponCabin before being let go because she was, as the CEO said, “simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin.”

That being said, we’re sure that Jennie’s column will be a hit with moms everywhere being that she’s “a little less fancy — and a lot more down to earth” than Kelly Taylor. That’s a good thing, although we wouldn’t mind a coupon to a shop on Rodeo Drive if she finds one!
