As much as we’d love to have hours to spend babying our skin and poring over every pore, line, and freckle on our faces, time for most of us mamas is not on our side. Heck, we consider it a victory if we’re able to slap on moisturizer in the mornings! But caring for your skin is essential to fend off premature aging, imperfections, and general dullness that likes to creep up on us when we we’re not paying attention.
So who better than celebrity skin specialist Renée Rouleau and her handy time-saving skin tips to get us on the path to proper skin care? If it’s good enough for celeb clients Jessica Simpson and and Ali Landry, it’s good enough for us. Take note, ladies!
“While there are many ways to bring on a glow,” Rouleau says, “a quick use of a facial scrub will reveal healthy, light-reflecting skin instantly.” How to do it? Massage a gentle facial scrub over the skin for 45 seconds, rinse, and then apply an alcohol-free toner. Follow that with an antioxidant serum and an SPF moisturizer, and you’re set to tackle your busy day.
Rather than using your facial scrub at the sink, Rouleau suggests saving precious minutes by keeping it in the shower to use it as your morning cleanser two to three times a week. “Most facial scrubs contain cleansing ingredients in them,” she says. “So there is no reason why it can’t act as a cleanser and scrub in one.” One to try from her line: the super gentle Mint Buffing Beads ($41.50).
No time for a facial? An at-home peel can work wonders for your skin. “Monthly facials are a must,” Rouleau notes, “but occasionally we tend to let our skincare maintenance take a backseat to a busy schedule.” For a quick skin fix, try an at-home peel such as the Bliss Sleeping Peel Resurfacing Gel ($30) or the Renée Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel ($85.50).
We all know that sunscreen is essential for skin preservation. Rouleau suggests choosing a facial moisturizer with a built-in SPF to combine two steps in one. One of our budget-friendly faves: Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer ($12.59).
