Jillian Michaels is not the first first-time mom to eat her words. “I used to say, if you’re going to exercise, then you do it, and you do it 100 percent,” she told Fitness magazine (via People). “Now if I’ve got to answer emails while I work out on the StairMaster, well, then that’s what it is.”

It’s a refreshing outlook from a woman who we’re used to see yelling at contestants on The Biggest Loser to motivate them to push harder and do more.

Even Jillian recognizes her evolving attitude. “People can rub my nose in it, because it is so hard — so hard — to take care of yourself when you’re a parent,” she says. Oh, how we’ve longed to hear her say this! After all, it’s almost harder to watch her perfect body on TV while we’re doing the dishes than it is to actually get to the gym. But now, even she gets it.

Like all moms, Jillian, who brought home adopted daughter Lukensia, 3, just one week after her partner, Heidi Rhoades gave birth to their son Phoenix, 10 months, is learning how to balance motherhood with everything else.

With Lukensia “Lu” wanting to do everything on her own, Jillian is realizing that even getting dressed is a major activity. “It means you have to sit there for 20 minutes while she tries to put on a shirt. It kills me because I’ve got to go to work.”

The fitness expert knows that her lack of patience may come up in her kids’ inevitable therapy when they’re older. “It makes me crazy, so I’ll just sit on the floor of the closet checking emails while Lu tries to figure out how to put on her shirt. It’s brutal, but I’m really trying. I guarantee it’s going to be their number one issue in therapy,” she jokingly admits.

Regardless of the advice she’s used to giving on The Biggest Loser, Jillian is not as strict with her young kids. “Lu knows that Sunday is her treat day, so she can eat ice cream or French fries or something,” she says.

Jillian also has great expectations that her children will enjoy getting being active. In terms of playing around with Phoenix, Jillian says, “I have visions of our doing Brazilian jujitsu and capoeira together. Or maybe he’ll want to take ballet, and that’s okay, too. Either way, I’m going to expose them both to a bunch of different activities, and whatever they love, they love.”

Sounds like a whole lot of healthy fun to us!
