The jury tasked with reaching a verdict for Jodi Arias , who has been charged with murder, has made a decision. After four days of deliberations, the jury — consisting of eight men and four women — found the defendant guilty of murder in the first degree.

The group of jurors listened to four months of testimony and final arguments surrounding the stabbing death of 30-year-old Travis Alexander. The verdict was read today at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Arias, 32, was accused of killing ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in the shower of his suburban Mesa, Arizona, home in June 2008. In the gruesome crime, Alexander was shot in the head and stabbed and slashed more than two dozen times. The crime was so violent that the victim was almost decapitated. Arias' palm print was found in blood at the scene, along with nude photos of her and the victim.

Arias, who has spent 18 days on the witness stand testifying in her defense, at first denied involvement in the crime, only to come forward two years later and say that she killed Alexander in self-defense. Prosecutor Juan Martinez made the case that Arias was a manipulative stalker, who planned the attack in a jealous rage.

Arias now faces the possibility of the death penalty. In the next phase of the case, prosecutors will present additional evidence and jurors will decide whether Alexander's death was caused in a cruel manner, which will determine Arias’ sentencing.
