When Katherine Heigl received the call that her second daughter Adalaide was on her way, it was a surprise to say the least. The actress appeared on The Tonight Show on Thursday, opening up about her adoption experience.
Katherine and musician husband Josh Kelley were already parents to Naleigh, 4, whom they adopted in 2009 from South Korea. Certain they wanted another child, the couple had started the adoption process, but were prepared for a long wait. “It’s a pretty long process. It can take years,” Katherine told Jay Leno.
Originally planning to adopt internationally, the couple began contemplating domestic adoption when the call came in saying they could have a baby in a matter of weeks. Katherine admits, “I had to talk Josh into that one. He thought it was gonna be a few years... and he looked at me and said, “You’re telling me [that] in a month we’re gonna have a newborn?”
Ready or not, the pair welcomed daughter Adalaide into their home this April and Katherine gushes, “It actually has been beautifully serendipitous and graceful.”
