Katie Couric is getting prank calls at 2 in the morning, and she’s not taking it lying down. That’s partially because the calls are waking her up, but more so because Katie is taking her concerns to the top of the NYPD food chain: Commissioner Ray Kelly.

According to the New York Daily News, Katie called Commissioner Kelly to complain about 911 calls that are coming from the phone of her late husband, Jay Monahan, every Tuesday at 2 a.m. Apparently the phone line, which is still in Monahan’s name since his death in 1998 from colon cancer, is dialing out to 911 and Katie has no idea why. Due to protocol, police personnel are forced to respond to the 911 calls at Katie’s Park Avenue home, so she’s up, they’re wasting their time, and everyone is exhausted from the situation. No one more so than Katie, who relayed the story to her talk show audience during a break in taping.

Katie isn’t the first celeb to deal with phony phone calls. Recently, LAPD have had to send SWAT teams to the homes of Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise, and Charlie Sheen in response to unnecessary 911 calls. Obviously, someone out there thinks it’s funny to waste police resources on fake emergency calls, but we just don’t get the joke!
