In this heartwarming video, Robby Novak, age 9 — who the internet knows as “Kid President,” his online alter ego — meets the real president of the United States.
As President Obama lets Kevin sit in his chair and use his “special phone,” he jokes about hopefully not causing an international incident. With a straight face the real president says, ”Kevin, you have a lot on your plate, balancing being president with being in third grade.”
In the best personalized White House tour ever, the Commander In Chief shows Kevin some highlights of the Oval Office, such as a portrait of Abraham Lincoln (coincidentally, a favorite of both presidents), the Emancipation Proclamation, and a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King.
President Obama then takes a moment to ask Kid President for advice, but rather than doling out wisdom, Kid President responds that he wants to make a statement, which is that he thinks the President is “doing awesome”. The president returns the compliment.
Kid President asks President Obama how kids and grownups can work together to change the world. The President’s thoughtful response: “We need to learn to treat each other with kindness and respect... and treat everyone fairly no matter what they look like or where they’re from.”
In parting, President Obama offers these encouraging words, as well as a presidential hug, “Between the two of us, I think we can get things going in a good direction.” How cute is that?
