A teen mom crashes into a cop car in order to save herself from kidnapper who wanted to adopt her newborn baby. It sounds like a Lifetime movie of the week plot, but for a New Jersey teenager, it was very real.
Police told Press of Atlantic City that Floribert Nava, 45, was involved in a dispute with the teen over the adoption of her newborn child, which Nava wanted for herself. So when the two met on Friday, Floribert allegedly pulled a gun on the teen, forced her into a car, and told her to drive them to Philadelphia to see the baby’s adoptive parents.
Sometime into the drive, the teen thought to intentionally crash the car into a parked police vehicle that was on the shoulder of a bridge. Once the cars crashed, the teen jumped out and told the Delaware River Port Authority Police Officer that she was being kidnapped and that Floribert had a gun.
Officer Mark Palowsky quickly arrested the abductor and it’s a good thing he did — apparently Floribert was traveling with an airsoft handgun, duct tape, trash bags, and latex gloves. If we know anything about scary movies, this sounds like the exact props an on-screen psychopath would need.
In the meantime, Nava has been charged with kidnapping, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Her immigration status is also under review.
