Cayden Bibeau was turning 2 years old with all of his friends and family by his side and a big Elmo birthday cake. But the happy affair was soon dulled once the cake was cut and the family discovered a paring knife hiding inside, according to WGME News.

It seems that somewhere along in the baking process, the Walmart staff in Auburn, Maine, had forgotten to remove the knife from beneath the cake, packaging it up inside and giving the boy’s family quite a scare.

Instead of pushing the ruined cake aside and leaving the issue for after the party, Cayden’s father Nathan Bibeau stopped everything and called Walmart right away to complain. “It really put a dampener on a lot of things,” he says. “People started leaving and the family was pretty upset.”

A spokeswoman for Walmart says, “This should not have happened.  We're thankful no one was hurt and sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience.  We are reaching out to the family to resolve this."

Walmart’s solution is to eliminate the particular knife from all of its stores nationwide.

We want to know what you think: Do you think eliminating the knife will prevent this issue in the future, or do you think the fault lies elsewhere? Sound off in the comments below!
