As if the shocking news of bombs going off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon didn’t make you lose faith in humanity already, there’s another tragic story developing today, this one out of Dallas.

According to NBCDFW.com, police say a suspect is now in police custody after allegedly shooting and killing his 28-year-old former girlfriend, Breshuana Jackson, and her unborn child earlier today. NBCDFW reports that Jackson was a mother of six children between the ages of 2 and 10. The shooting reportedly took place at a home daycare facility in the Hamilton Park neighborhood. The suspect is accused of shooting Jackson in the stomach and the leg, and both she and the fetus died from their wounds.

The suspect led police on a one-hour high-speed car chase before barricading himself in a home on Schroeder Road. During the chase, the suspect shot a police officer in the stomach. Fortunately, the office was wearing a bulletproof vest. He was hospitalized and has now been released.
