Halle Berry looked amazing at the recent premiere of Cloud Atlas, so we were thrilled when her make-up artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua shared the secret to her silvery smoky eyes with In Style. It might seem like a task fit for the pros, but it’s really pretty simple. We’ve picked our fave products to recreate the smoldering look in no time flat. Hello, holiday parties!
Get ready to make those eyes POP! For Halle’s eyes, Kara says she created a “look with blended charcoals and shimmery silvers.” Start by blending gel eyeliner on upper and lower lashes for an ultra-smoky look. Just make sure it’s smudge-proof, so eyes look sensual, and not like you just had a good cry. Try Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink.
Now add shadow. For a look similar to Halle’s, we like Revlon’s Illuminance Crème Shadow in Black Magic, which includes a dark to light pewter palette. Start with the darkest shade on lower lids, sweep a lighter shade above it, then blend away.
Kara recommends eliminating harsh lines by using a domed shadow brush with a touch of bronzing powder that can blend colors along the edge of the eyes to keep them from looking overdone. For a wallet-friendly option, go with Kashuk Tools’ Large Domed Eye Shadow Brush and MAC’s Brozing Powder.
Lipstick and Blush
Smoky eyes go best with nude lips and a softer cheek color. For peachy cheeks, we like Nars’ Blush in Orgasm; for the lips, go with Nars Sheer Lipstick in Cruising. Pro tip: A dab of gloss in the middle of lips makes them look fuller. Now who doesn’t want Angelina Jolie lips to match her Halle Berry eyes?
