It’s not unusual for the stars of MTV’s Teen Mom series to get called out for not making the wisest decisions. After all, these young parents are still kids themselves. But when it comes to Corey Simms, ex-husband of Leah Messer Calvert, posting a shirtless photo of one of his twins on Twitter, I’m not as up in arms about it as some parents.

Here’s the deal: On Sunday morning, Corey snapped a shot of his twins, Aliannah and Aleeah, going through their Easter baskets. The photo showed both girls, including a fully-clothed Ali and a shirtless Aleeah, both 3 years old.

The tweeted picture apparently upset one of Corey’s followers, @SheltonMichele, who wrote: “u should be a little more careful of the pics with no clothes on..Your [sic] in the public world..”

Corey responded, “She’s a child that’s how she woke up..Get over it.”

As a parent of two toddlers myself, my initial reaction is to defend Corey. After all, Aleeah is crazy cute and the picture is totally innocent. It’s not as if Corey staged some questionable posed photo of his shirtless child for the world to see. And Aleeah is 3, not 13.

However, @SheltonMichele has a point if you look at the situation from a safety standpoint. Hopefully, anyone looking at the photo would think, oh, that’s adorable, and move on…but we know they don’t all do that.

As a public figure, Corey has lots of Twitter followers that he doesn’t know. Some of them probably shouldn’t have access to naked pictures of his kids — even one as innocent as this. Even I think about whether or not I should share topless or tushie pictures of my son and daughter, and lord knows, I have nowhere near the 249,413 (and growing) followers that Corey does on Twitter. And remember, anyone can see anyone’s tweets on Twitter.

So while I don’t think that Corey was wrong at all for taking the picture, or even sharing it with friends and family, he might want to consider all of the people he doesn’t know who are going to see it as well. Just to be on the safe side…

Tell us what you think: Would you tweet photos like this of your child?
