Ben Affleck made a very bold move last night at the Oscars. After winning the Best Picture award for his film, Argo, he broke down a bit on stage.
As Affleck lovers, we’re used to hearing him thank his film industry buddies, speak about his bromance with Matt Damon, and gushing over his wife, Jennifer Garner. Last night, however, things got real.
The star did thank his lovely wife, but he also acknowledged that it hasn’t been an easy road. for “... working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good…it IS work, but it’s the best kind of work… and there’s no one I’d rather work with,” he said.
Unmarried folks might have seen this as Ben airing his dirty laundry on live television, but for anyone who is married, you get it. After all, marriage IS work. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling himself — or has never been married.
Despite happy endings in the movies, the reality is that most Hollywood marriages rarely last. We’ve seen Britney get in and out of a marriage in a matter of hours and Kim Kardashian in a matter of months. So to hear that even big stars like Ben and Jen have to work to make their marriage work is refreshing. Turns out, they are just like us!
