When it comes to sex and conception, there’s no right way to do it. Fun ways? Yes! Good feeling ways? Definitely. But there’s no surefire way to get pregnant.
Of course, there are a ton of myths — like if you have sex like rabbits, you’ll definitely conceive; or missionary is the only position that works for getting pregnant; or if you do a handstand for a certain amount of time after sex, the sperm will stick. None are necessarily true, but they aren’t not true either.
Dr. Donnica Moore, MD, tells WebMD, “When trying to conceive, it’s better to have sex every other day around ovulation to give the guy a chance to recharge his sperm count.”
WebMD reports the man-on-top position is not scientifically proven to be ideal for baby-making, but it is advantageous. Of course, it’s possible to get pregnant in any position, which is unfortunate, since we spent our twenties making sure we were in the “wrong” position!
And that whole handstand thing? While it’s not necessary to turn your entire body upside down — not to mention, that it’s pretty uncomfortable and totally unsexy — Dr. Moore says, “Some people suggest that placing a pillow under the hips and keeping legs raised after sex may enhance the sperms’ ability to swim upstream.”
But while there are ways to increase your chances, unfortunately, nothing’s a guarantee. The best thing to do is try to relax and enjoy having as much sex as possible — every other day!
