They say the legs are the last to go, but have you checked out your raw, chapped hands lately? Nothing says aging like the dry hands of winter. Get ready to buff up with these tricks to help keep your winter skin baby soft.
Deny the Dry
To help keep your hands from getting too dry in the first place, be sure to protect your hands with gloves when you’re in cold weather. Also consider doing the dishes with rubber gloves on, or better yet, outsource it to the maid (kidding, we mean your spouse).
Keep Things Moist
Keep a humidifier on hand to combat dry indoor air. Apply a thick, creamy hand lotion generously several times a day. You may even want to risk your spouse looking at you like you’re crazy by sleeping with socks on your hands after creaming up.
Nobody likes the red and raw look. Semi-regular manicures will keep your hands soft and supple. Many nail salons now incorporate a delightful paraffin wax for extra special moisturizing that feels delightfully warm.
In the Buff
Believe it or not, part of the dryness that happens to hands in winter is actually due to a build-up of excess dead skin cells just waiting to be liberated. Get a gentle, moisturizing exfoliant and a loofah and go to town. Just remember to apply lotion liberally afterwards to lock in that precious moisture.
