Watch Morgan Deplitch Sing “Paris” in the American Idol 2014 Premiere (VIDEO)

It’s been a long, hard hiatus since Candice Glover was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 12. Thankfully, our favorite music competition returned tonight (January 15), and we met a whole new crop of hopefuls looking to become the country’s next big superstar!

Kicking off the latest tour of the United States, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and new judge Harry Connick Jr. headed for Austin, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts. (Of course, Ryan Seacrest was also there to provide much-needed commentary.)

It’s in Boston where the judges meet Morgan Deplitch, who talks about how much of an influence Jennifer has been on her. Yet, when it comes time for her to sing, she opts for something very un-J.Lo by choosing Grace Potter’s “Paris (Ooh La La).”

“I can hear that you were losing your breath,” says J.Lo. “But I know that’s nerves. I feel like you have something. You have a lot of confidence.”

Harry, on the other hand, isn’t quite impressed. “It’s important as an artist to figure out the songs that are right for you. In your case, the ones that are age-appropriate. It was really creeping me out. I was so thrown by your song choice.”

“I wasn’t bothered by the song choice at all,” Keith says in defense of Morgan. “I like your voice a lot.”

Despite Harry being “creeped out,” he decides to give her his vote and she’s sent through to Hollywood!

What do you think of Morgan’s performance? Will she make it to the Top 31? Read our spoilers here!
