We already knew Frozen is the best movie of all time, but now, it’s official. The movie starring our two new favorite Disney princesses is now the top grossing animated film in history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In order to accomplish such an amazing feat, Frozen beat out Toy Story 3, which earned $1.063 billion. Thanks to $398.4 million earned domestically and $674 million outside of the US, Frozen’s total became $1.072 billion over the weekend. That’s a lot of people who know every word to “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”
The film has Japan’s late release to thank for those extra dollars that pushed the movie’s grossing over the edge. Their release has earned $50.5 million so far. And as far as all movies go — even the ones that aren’t animated — Frozen is holding steady to a number 10 spot on the list of biggest global blockbusters.
And now that Frozen’s been released on DVD, there is no excuse not to turn all your friends who have been under a rock for the past four months into Frozen converts. It only takes one viewing, people.
Next stop: the stage! See you on Broadway, Anna and Elsa!
