Now here is some Magnum-sized news to titillate you on this mundane Monday: The forthcoming sequel to 2012 male-stripper dramedy Magic Mike will be titled Magic Mike XXL.
At least, that's what sources tell Indiewire. The site also reports that Magic Mike helmer Steven Soderbergh is handing over directing duties to his creative partner, Greg Jacobs.
The first movie, based loosely on star Channing Tatum's own experience as a male stripper, earned over $167 million worldwide with a budget of a mere $7 million — so it's no surprise that Warner Bros. is getting the gang back together for a second installment.
Greg has been Steven's assistant director for countless movies — including all the Ocean's Eleven films, Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Contagion, Side Effects, and Behind the Candelabra. Sounds like the perfect fella to take the Magic Mike torch.
If you were a big fan of the hunks in the first movie, you'll be glad to know that Indiewire says most of the stripper cast — which included Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey — is expected to return for Part 2.
Now, if only we could convince Warner Bros. to release the movie on IMAX…
