Heeey, you guys! Fans of the beloved '80s adventure film The Goonies just got very good news, as the original film's director has announced that a sequel is on the way. Let's hope Corey Feldman is able to clear his schedule. (Consider yourself zinged, Corey Feldman.)
Richard Donner, who directed the 1985 film that was co-written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, was asked by TMZ whether he would ever make another comic book movie. As you may recall, Richard directed the original Superman film.
As it turns out, Richard isn't exactly planning to make a comic book film, but he has news that might be even better. "If you call Goonies a comic book - we're doing a sequel," Richard says.
Wow! This is amazing news for anyone who grew up watching the original? But will any of the first movie's stars — including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and of course Corey — return for the second one? "Hopefully all of them," Richard says optimistically.
In case your memory of '80s flicks is a bit spotty, Goonies features a group of young friends who find a treasure map and go searching for riches. And there's also a little something called the "truffle shuffle," which would need to be in the sequel.
Are you excited for a Goonies sequel? Or do you think it's been too long?
