Word to anyone who’s looking forward to the Spring Breakers sequel, should those people exist: It’s going to be a bad movie, according to James Franco. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
It’s a little unbelievable that Spring Breakers 2 is a thing, but it’s true: A second movie is being made, and without any of the original cast. Not surprising that Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson would rather not be involved in perpetuating the Spring Breakers cycle — the first one turned into two of the most bizarre hours of our lives that we’ll never get back.
Another member of the original cast who wouldn’t touch the sequel with a ten foot pole? James Franco, who has taken to Instagram to very bluntly express his feelings about the movie, predicting its failure before filming has even begun. He wants everyone to know that the film is being made without his consent or the consent of Harmony Korine, who directed the 2012 installment.
“I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship,” James warns. “It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’etre: To make money off of someone else’s creativity.”
Geez, James. Tell us how you really feel! The Palto Alto actor also goes so far as to compare Spring Breakers to the classic Robert DeNiro movie, Taxi Driver, calling it “insanity” to think that anyone would ever create a sequel based on that film without Robert’s consent.
“I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original version, and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity,” James adds.
So what do you think: Spring Breakers 2 just as bad as James says, or do you think we should give the movie a chance?
