This weekend’s box office numbers are in, and our favorite clay-eating celeb Shailene Woodley has a lot to be proud of. The Fault in Our Stars has officially claimed the number one spot, forcing the big-budget Tom Cruise action thriller Edge of Tomorrow to settle in at number three on its opening weekend.

According to the Huffington Post, The Fault in Our Stars brought in $48.2 million over the weekend, successfully besting Disney’s Maleficent (which made $33.5 million in its second week) and Edge of Tomorrow’s $29.1 million. Way to go!

And although the love story between two cancer patients (Shailene and her Divergent co-star, Ansel Elgort) had a much smaller budget than its competitors, it managed to reign over this weekend’s audiences — and movie execs say its because the female demographic is now becoming the one films have to win over. Fault’s audience was 82 percent female, which creates a huge gender gap.

“We knew that we had an engaged fan base but we weren’t sure of the depth of it,” Fox distribution head Chris Aroson said. “We also knew we had formidable competition in the marketplace for similar if not identical demographics.”

Among those females who rushed into theaters for The Fault in Our Stars’s debut was Shailene herself, who donned a wig in order to see the movie in theaters without her fellow moviegoers recognizing her.

So what to do now that the incredibly torturous wait for The Fault in Our Stars to hit theaters is over? Go see it again, of course — and cry just as much the second time. And the third.
