If you haven’t heard by now, you’re about to hear it here: My Big Fat Greek Wedding is returning for a sequel, and fans everywhere are shouting out opa! The star of the original film, Nia Vardalos, has already written up the script for the second film, and you better believe she is returning to reprise her role as Toula Portokalos, along with her non-Greek on-screen husband, John Corbett.
But what about the rest of the cast? Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with Joey Fatone — who played Toula’s cousin, Angelo — during the 2014 FIFA World Cup McDonald’s Launch Party in NYC to get the exclusive if he and the rest of the original cast would be joining Nia and John.
“I think it would be kind of fun, it would be nice if we all came back together,” Joey says to Wetpaint. “I think that would be a blast. It would be kind of interesting to see if all of us do sign on, and hopefully [they’ll] have us go ahead and do it, which would be great. So we’ll see, we’ll find out, it would be fun.” Oh, the suspense!
So what can you expect in the sequel? The plot circles around yet another big, fat Greek wedding, along with the unraveling of a family secret. If you thought the first wedding was huge, just imagine how big the second one is going to be!
Nia recently took to Twitter to announce the upcoming film by saying, “I’m working on the MBFGWedding sequel; now that I’m experiencing motherhood I feel ready to write this next chapter.”
She went on to add, “A few jaded press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”
We’re keeping our fingers crossed, and hoping that the entire cast reunites for the second movie. I mean, we would love to hear Joey speak fluent Greek and dance on the silver screen again. Just saying.
