If J.K. Rowling’s new short story set in the Harry Potter universe gave you hope for another film, depicting the future of Harry and his friends, you may be in for a bit of a disappointment. According to Dan Radcliffe, AKA Harry Potter himself, there aren’t any plans on the horizon for a reunion.
Although Dan has yet to read the short story, he’s “inclined to say no” to the possibility of another sequel, and that even if it was going to happen, he might not be the top pick to play Harry since the version of everyone’s favorite wizard from the new story is 12 years his senior.
“It’s not even really a hypothetical question now,” Dan told the New York Daily News on July 8.
And although Dan’s tried out a lot of wildly different roles since he hung up his wand and cloak of invisibility on the Harry Potter set, that doesn’t mean he regrets taking on the role of Harry to begin with. He was just looking for a change of pace after playing the same role for so long.
“It was more that after playing the same character for such a long time, I’d look at actors like Ben Wishaw, who I admire, playing a variety of roles,” Dan said. “So I thought I’d like to do it while the going is good.”
All is not lost, though — Jo’s still in the midst of penning the movie adaptation for her book Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, and you are more than welcome to play your heart out on Pottermore. Maybe more short stories will pop up in the future!
