Every year is a big year for Beyoncé, who turns 33 today, September 4 — but this past 12 months were pretty huge for the "XO" singer. In honor of her birthday, let's look back at five moments when Queen Bey was absolutely flawless at age 32.
December 12, 2013: Beyoncé Releases BEYONCE
Who needs hype around their fifth studio album? Not Beyoncé. Back in December, she released her self-titled album with zero fanfare and it still debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling a million digital copies worldwide in just six days. With no prior promotion.
January 12, 2014: Beyoncé Contributes to The Shriver Report
Beyoncé is not just a wildly influential artist — she frequently throws her hat into the activist ring, too. Back in January, she took her views to the academic level when she contributed to Maria Shriver's The Shriver Report, which examines issues facing American women.
“Today, women make up half of the US workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes,” Beyoncé wrote. “But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change.”
April 13, 2014: Beyoncé Supports Solange at Coachella
Bey showed love to both her fans and Solange at Coachella when she jumped onstage during her performance — but let her little sister keep doing all the singing.
April 24, 2014: Beyoncé Graces the Cover of TIME Magazine
Beyoncé not only made Time's annual list of the world's 100 most influential people — because of course she did — she was one of four people to earn a spot on the cover.
August 24, 2014: Beyoncé Accepts the Vanguard Award From Jay Z and Blue Ivy
Some of us literally cried when Beyoncé, in the midst of some nasty divorce rumors about her and hubby Jay Z, accepted the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award from her family at the VMAs. We died a little when little Blue turned to the mic and said, "Go Mommy!"
To be fair, we were already pretty worked up by how cute Blue looked in the audience… and from Beyoncé's impressive medley of her entire self-titled album.
What were your favorite Beyoncé moments from her 33rd year? Post your memories (and birthday wishes!) in the comments!
