The Wanted wanted some space. That’s the rumor explaining why the U.K. boy band announced last week they were going on a break. Band member Max George added gasoline to that particular fire with his controversial comments in an interview with U.K. tabloid The Sun.
The 25-year-old singer told the pub (via The Mirror) that there was tension among the band members. Max also reportedly called out bandmate Siva Kaneswaran’s fiancée, Nareesha McCaffrey, for causing friction among the group.
“Our personal lives drove us apart — things started to happen and we were drifting. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn’t The Wanted anymore,” Max reportedly told The Sun.
Those are much more serious claims than the ones The Wanted has officially put forth, and the rest of the group was supposedly shocked to hear what Max told the world.
Now 25-year-old Siva tells Perez Hilton what actually is going on, at least from his point of view.
“Honestly, all I know is that we were on a phone call together and we all agreed — everyone voiced their opinions on how they all wanted to do their own solo things and from that, we released statements — so that’s all I know,” he tells Perez.
He calls Max’s comments to The Sun “very disappointing” and says “we really have to sit down and discuss this. And I mean, figure out if it’s something that we can move past and just communicate.”
Even in light of this new development, Siva says going on a break doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the popular quintet. “I think in the agreement we had, we’ll come back together when we all naturally felt like we’d all come back together. But The Wanted never split up. We never really split up.”
We’ll believe it when we see it, Siva.
