For any naysayers out there who think Pharrell Williams is just a really good guest artist, take heed: He’s releasing another solo album! The Man With the Giant Hat announced the exciting news earlier today (February 19) in true Pharrell style: with an exclusive video!
The 30-second clip quickly flips through behind-the-scenes pics of Pharrell (wearing hat) working on what we assume is his next big project. Called G I R L, the solo work is set to drop March 3 and will feature his Academy Award-nominated hit “Happy” (which might be an Academy Award winner after The Oscars air on March 2).
Set against the sweet tones of a classical orchestra, the video shows Pharrell waving his hands, listening to tracks, and, at one point, shedding a single tear. We also get a look at the G I R L cover art: Pharrell in white terrycloth robe surrounded by three, you guess it, girls, also in plush robes.
Pharrell, of course, has already gone solo once before, in 2006 with In My Mind. That album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Music Charts. More recently, of course, the 40-year-old artist has made waves for his joint ventures with the likes of Robin Thicke and Daft Punk. Let’s hope he gets lucky with G I R L, too.
