Normally it's at least a little sad when an artist gets dropped from a record label, but controversy-stirring rapper Azealia Banks was pretty stoked when she finally cut ties with Universal yesterday. The "Yung Rapunxel" artist celebrated the split over Twitter on July 10 with a series of tweets and retweets… including quotes from the Alice Walker classic, The Color Purple.

"I'M ABOUT TO GET OUT OF MY DEAL! THAT'S THE BIG SURPRISE!" Azealia tweeted Thursday morning. "I'S IS FREE!!!!! I'm feeling like Miss Celie at the end of Color Purple. Free at last."

Azealia had signed to Universal in 2012 after the success of her song "212," and her debut studio album was supposed to come soon after. But despite releasing an EP and a mixtape, that album, Broke With Expensive Taste, never came — and as time went on Azealia started making more headlines from her feud with T.I. than for any musical output.

She went public with her creative differences with Universal on Twitter in January, saying, "I'm tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. They don't even know what they're listening for or to."

So yesterday was obviously a really exciting day for the 23-year-old rising star... a feeling that didn't really wear off today. "UGH I'M FREE THIS IS CRAZY," she continued this morning, going on to quote the Tom Tom Club. "WHAT YA GON DO WHEN YA GET OUTTA JAIL?! I'M GONNA HAVE SOME FUN."

Fans — and naturally, Azealia — are hoping this means her debut studio album will finally drop soon. It's about time!
