"Rumor Has It" that Adele just confirmed that she's releasing a new album this year, titled 25, before immediately embarking on a concert tour.
But as Billboard notes, there's something fishy about this "confirmation." The story comes from a solitary tweet coming from the official Twitter account of the World Music Awards.
Martin Mills — the chairman of Beggars Group, the parent company of Adele's XL Recordings — tells Billboard that there is "no true in this."
Adele herself has not commented one way or the other.
But based on a tweet the Brit chanteuse posted in May, there may actually be some truth in the claim. Tweeting on her birthday, Adele bid farewell to 25 and then wrote, "See you again later in the year."
Adele's previous two albums, 19 and 21, were named after her age when she wrote the tracks contained on each.
If/when 25 does come out, she'll inevitably add to her collection of 10 Grammys.
The Grammys, by the way, is a legitimate award show. The World Music Awards seems to be… an award show. This year's event was so delayed that it couldn't be broadcast on NBC as planned, a livestream of the red carpet was canceled, and planned host Sharon Stone dropped out at the last minute over a payment dispute.
So as for this "confirmation," your guess is as good as ours!
