Does Pharrell Williams make you happy like a room without a roof? Did news of his first solo project in almost eight years make you feel like happiness is the truth? Then clap along if you want to know even more about his upcoming album, G I R L.
Okay, we’ll stop with the “Happy” lyrics (that song is just so infectious!) but we will say Pharrell’s new interview with Entertainment Tonight makes us mighty pleased. The 40-year-old artist and recent Oscars performer took a moment to chat with ET about G I R L and his muse behind the new work.
“It’s pretty, pretty awesome,” he said of his year to date. “And, you know, I have people to thank because they lifted me to this height.” Insert joke about his outrageously high hat here.
As for G I R L, Pharrell’s inspiration is pretty much all in the title.
“I knew that it was going to be called G I R L. I knew I wanted visceral and urgent, I wanted it to be celebratory and festive,” he explains. “It’s the album I’ve always dreamt of making.”
“It’s a love story,” he continues. “The album is made for human beings, for everyone. It’s just that my muse were women.”
G I R L debuted yesterday (March 3). Got it on repeat yet? Tell us what you make of Pharrell’s new work and if it makes you happy, happy, happy!
