Will the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards have a Miley Cyrus moment? If host Charlamagne Tha God has anything to do with it, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea would be music’s next “It” girl — and she’s already got Miley beat in the booty department.
“Iggy don’t have no long back like Miley,” Charlamagne told Wetpaint Entertainment during a recent sit-down. “If she gets to twerking, it might be something.”
The 23-year-old rapper is just one of the performers who took the stage during mtvU’s 2014 Woodie Awards at SXSW in Austin, Texas this year. Iggy was joined by Childish Gambino — “I hope to leave the Woodies with a better appreciation for [his] music,” Charlamagne told us — and British pop-rockers The 1975 during Wednesday night’s festival. But it’s Iggy who Charlamagne thinks will be the next Woodie Awards success story. (We’re looking at you, 2013 Woodie Awards performer, Kendrick Lamar!)
In fact, she even has what it takes to become the next Macklemore. “There has never been a big, white female rapper… so when it works for that white female rapper, it’s going to work, like, Eminem-Macklemore work.”
See what else Charlamagne had to say about the Woodies, Iggy, and yes, Miley in the video above. And if you didn’t make it to Austin for the big event, don’t worry! A 30-minute special highlighting the 10th annual Woodie Awards — 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards Special — will air on MTV and mtvU in primetime on Sunday, March 16, at 8 p.m. ET.
