Lorde may be all about royals but don’t expect to see her joining forces with one pop princess anytime soon. The 17-year-old Kiwi with the killer voice has reportedly turned down Katy Perry’s offer to join her on her upcoming world tour.
We won’t go so far as to call this a celebrity feud — though, believe us, our fingers are itching to do so — but it does sound like an awkward situation for both ladies involved. Word is Katy offered for Lorde to be her opening act but the teen decided to pass. When said offer was made isn’t clear.
That’d be a life-changing opportunity for your typical fresh-faced addition to the music industry, but nothing about Lorde is typical and we don’t just mean her hair. She had one of the breakout hits of last year and started 2014 off by winning two Grammys. We don’t see her opening for anyone any time soon.
And that’s pretty much what the straight shooter told an Australian radio show. “In the early stages of an artist’s career it’s important to establish themselves for themselves,” Lorde explained. “So I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else.”
Translation: Thanks but no thanks, Katy.
