Even if you were nowhere near the internet for most of today you’ve probably heard two big pieces of news: first, Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband of 10 years, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, are splitting up and second, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls might be joining forces on a new tour.
Our apologies for the yo-yoing in emotions that back-to-back news probably just inspired. But before you crank up “Yellow” because you’re feeling so blue about Gooplay, let us remind you of the level of awesomeness a Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls joint tour would be. We’ll tell you what we want, what we really, really want. We want it that way.
Unfortunately, however, the internet may have jumped the gun on any such tour. The original source of the rumor is U.K. tabloid The Sun (via MTV UK), which claims Brian Littrell of Backstreet is in discussions for the monumental effort. Fellow boy bander A.J. McLean, however, says the rumors are nothing but that rumors.
“It’s not happening,” he tells UK outlet Zoom.in, not even shielding us a bit from the harsh glare of reality. “But who knows? Obviously there’s multiple possibilities of what could happen. I think that would be fun, if we ever did do something like that.”
Yes, do something like that! Do it right away!
