We have to ask: are you that somebody who knows everything about the late Aaliyah? In case you aren’t, we have just what you need to educate yourself on the short, yet astonishing career of the late R&B princess.

In fact, the “Try Again” singer’s life has been the subject of a slated Lifetime film, which until recently, was going to star Disney Channel star Zendaya. Granted, Aaliyah’s family hasn’t been too keen with the biopic, so for now, things seem to be at a halt.

The Brooklyn-born singer died at the young age of 22 during a plane crash in the Bahamas back in 2001. Prior to the accident, she had just wrapped up filming the music video for “Rock the Boat,” which sadly became her last.

What you might not know about Aaliyah is that she also had a budding acting career. She appeared in the Queen of the Damned and Romeo Must Die films, and even recorded “Journey to the Past” for the animated film, Anastasia. That song took her to the 1998 Academy Awards, where she became the youngest person to perform during the ceremony.

We could go on and on about things you never knew about the late singer, but we won’t spoil anything. Watch the full video above to learn more about Aaliyah!
