Hope nobody out there bought tickets for the Fashion Meets Music Festival hoping to see R. Kelly perform. The headliner has officially been dropped from the Columbus, Ohio, event after his addition stirred up trouble for the festival.
R. Kelly was originally scheduled to perform during the first day, August 29, of the three-day event hosted over Labor Day weekend, but FMMF organizers have paid heed to cries the controversial star be kicked from the lineup. The “Ignition” star’s publicist released the following statement about the turn of events: “R. Kelly is sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to seeing them in the near future during one of his upcoming tours.”
What was all the hullabaloo about? Well, um, this is R. Kelly we’re talking about, notorious R&B star who’s been to court multiple times and, most infamously, for multiple counts of making child pornography. While he was found not guilty of those charges in 2008, the incident inspired Columbus citizens to make sure R didn’t play in their town. He previously performed at 2013’s Bonnaroo and Pitchfork festivals.
So with R. Kelly out of the lineup, who else will be playing FMMF? You’ll get a little O.A.R., a bit of Paper Diamond, and some Michelle Williams among others so we wouldn’t say the entire weekend’s a wash.
Are you surprised R. Kelly is out? Was wondering why he ever made the lineup the first time around? Tell us in the comments!
