Jennifer Lawrence Named AP’s Entertainer of the 2013 — Beats Miley Cyrus!

The Girl on Fire has proven that she’s a beast even when she’s not trapped in a televised death trap — and she had to take down twerkaholic Miley Cyrus to do so. No, Jennifer Lawrence and Miley didn’t have to fight it out to the death, but they were vying for the same title: AP’s Entertainer of the Year.

After 70 ballots were cast by editors and news directors around the United States, J.Law narrowly edged out her competition, coming out with 15 of the 70 votes. Miley garnered a total of 14 while Netflix, surprisingly, earned 13. It only seems right that it came down to Jennifer and Miley in the end, but we applaud Netflix for its valiant effort — there’s always next year, buddy!

The “Year of J.Law” began with her taking home an Oscar for her amazing work in Silver Linings Playbook (after tripping up the stairs to accept her award), and she’s ending the year by getting lots of attention from critics for her role in American Hustle. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget that she lit up the screen as Katniss Everdeen in the second installment of The Hunger Games between these two critically-acclaimed films.

Perhaps J.Law snagged the title away from Miley by not sticking her tongue out and grinding on teddy bears, but its clear that women are dominating this title — and have done so for the past few years. In the last 7 years, Stephen Colbert is the only man to take home the coveted title, with Lady Gaga, Tina Fey, Adele, Taylor Swift, and Betty White taking the other five spots.

Breaking Bad and Justin Timberlake rounded out this year’s Top 5. Perhaps next year will be the year that a TV series or something like Netflix upsets our favorite humans for the honor. In the meantime, however, we’re going to go celebrate in The Capital.

Congrats, J.Law!
