We expect (read: demand) celebs to be glam on the red carpet, and the attendees of the 67th Emmy Awards did not disappoint. But no transformation from on-screen character to red carpet idol was more dramatic than that of American Horror Story’s Naomi Grossman.

The 40-year-old actress — who played Pepper in two seasons of the FX hit, Asylum and Freak Show — turned heads in a swirling, black-and-nude Jun Escario dress with matching earrings.

Naomi recently explained her Pepper-y transformation in an Examiner Q&A: “For the most part, silicone. The makeup typically consisted of a silicone brow, nose, ears, and arms, all of which took about 2.5–3 hours to apply. Except for the freak orgy, which also involved a silicone chest and foam arms, which took about 6 hours.”

As if her red carpet transformation weren’t evidence enough, Naomi and Pepper are two very different women.

“Physically, mentally, emotionally, we’re so different,” she said. “If anything, I find I have to find the similarities, which are mostly universal: I’ve loved, I’ve lost, I’m playful, quirky, compassionate, affectionate, and generally good. I love to sing and dance and will turn it on for a crowd.”

And she definitely turned on the style for the Emmy crowd. Work it, Naomi!
