Nashville Music: Avery Sings “The Morning of the Rain” in Episode 19
We were sashaying ourselves silly during this week's episode of Nashville Season 1, Episode 19 "Why Don't You Love Me," and it's all thanks to a certain super-freak named Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson). This nomadic grifter took a break from being Juliette's (Hayden Panettiere) lackey to break into a random tune with her band, and his mullet was whipping back and forth like whoa.
Avery performed an original song during this week's episode (which was also featured in episode 7 "Lovesick Blues"), and the lyrics are completely poetic. Much like boyfriend's free-flowing hair, which we refuse to stop talking about.
Unfortunately, Avery was cut off in the middle of his dulcet tones, but fear not. We've rounded up the lyrics for you to look back on — and don't forget to purchase the full single on iTunes!
You tore my heart apart I loved you from the start But you couldn't take it You couldn't take it I gave all my dreams You tore it at the seams You couldn't fake it You couldn't fake it, no
[Chorus] This is the morning of the rain. This is the healing from my pain This is the wonderful mistake This is the morning of the rain
I got a thousand lies You acted so surprised But you couldn't fake it You couldn't fake it My soul released a cry And you could hear the sound from London to Paris Dublin to Nashville
Can you hear me when I'm calling, calling Can you hear me when I down, down, down Can you hear me when I'm falling, falling Will I ever hit the ground, ground, ground This is the morning of the rain
This is the morning of the rain This is the morning of the rain
