Not-so-recovering alcoholic Deacon Claybourne (Charle Esten) got the surprise of his life at the tail-end of Nashville’s second season, when he finally learned that former flame Rayna Jaymes’ (Connie Britton) eldest daughter, Maddie, is actually his child and not Teddy’s, as everyone had long believed.

According to TV Guide, Deacon takes some time to adjust to this bombshell, and isn’t exactly ready to be a dad. "I don't think Deacon ever thought of himself as father material and as the season goes on we'll see him grapple with why he feels that way and whether or not he's right," revealed show creator Callie Khouri.

The season doesn’t start off great for Maddie’s mom either, who is hospitalized following that near-fatal car crash. Still, once on the mend Rayna feels "liberated" now that her secret is out and her marriage to Teddy is over. You do you, girl!

And what about now motherless country cutie Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere)? Yes, the starlet is is still coping with her mother's death, but don’t expect this recent chain of events to reform her bad girl ways. "I don't know if we'll ever see a time when [Juliette's] not screwing up something for herself," Callie continues.

Season 2 of Nashville premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Are you ready for all that’s in store?
